Why am I running for Council, anyway?

When I was appointed to the Aberdeen City Council earlier this year, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. But I can tell you now that I’m loving every minute of it. Stepping into this role has been both eye-opening and inspiring. I’ve been incredibly impressed with what the Council has accomplished so far and the work currently being done to evaluate Aberdeen's strengths and challenges. We’re taking a hard look at where we stand and prioritizing the areas that need improvement. It’s the kind of forward-thinking, community-focused planning that I want to be a part of.
That’s why I’m running to retain my seat. I want to see these plans through. I want to roll up my sleeves and work hard to help turn those priorities into progress. I’m committed to being a voice for the community, to truly listening when people share their concerns or ideas. I believe in honest, straightforward communication. If you bring an issue to me, I’ll listen, and I’ll always be honest with you about what the City can or can’t do. I won't have all the answers, but when I don't know something, I will be honest about that and commit to finding the answer and sharing it. "Your Voice, Our Aberdeen" is more than just a slogan, it’s the heart of how I want to serve.
My platform focuses on three main priorities:
Addressing Homelessness with Compassion and Action
Homelessness is a challenge that many communities face, and Aberdeen is no exception. I believe we need practical, compassionate solutions that involve collaboration with local organizations, increased access to resources, and long-term planning that addresses root causes, not just symptoms.
Revitalizing Our Downtown Core
Our downtown is the heart of Aberdeen, and it has so much untapped potential. Through my work on the Downtown Aberdeen Association’s Design and Economic Vitality Committee, I’ve seen firsthand the passion people have for breathing new life into our local businesses and public spaces. I want to continue supporting these efforts and make our downtown a place we can all be proud of.
Investing in Infrastructure Improvements
Safe, well-maintained roads and public spaces aren’t luxuries, they’re necessities. I’m committed to advocating for smart, sustainable investments in our infrastructure to ensure that Aberdeen is safe and accessible for everyone.
In future posts, I'll dive into each of these in a lot more depth, so stay tuned!
I’m running because I believe in Aberdeen’s future. I believe that by working together, we can make lasting changes that benefit all of us. I want to be someone you feel comfortable reaching out to, someone who listens and takes your concerns to heart. I want to "Carrie Forward" our community’s progress and make sure that your voice is always heard.
I look forward to continuing this journey with you, to listening, learning, and working hard for the place we all call home. Thank you for your support. I’m honored to serve, and I’m ready to keep moving Aberdeen forward.
